Experience the Cape Whale Coast
Whale Waters places you beside one of the Western Cape’s most distinctive coastlines. From seasonal whale watching and coastal walks to marine adventures, caves and unhurried drives through the Overberg, the area offers plenty to experience without losing its peaceful character.
Whale watching
Southern Right whales visit Walker Bay during the South African winter and spring, generally from June to December. De Kelders is known for land-based viewing from its cliffs and coastal paths, while licensed operators offer boat-based whale-watching trips from nearby harbours. Sightings are natural events and can never be guaranteed.
On & under the water
Gansbaai and Kleinbaai are established departure points for guided marine experiences, including whale-watching cruises and shark-cage diving. Sea conditions affect all ocean activities, so book with a licensed operator and confirm times and requirements directly.

Walker Bay Nature Reserve & Klipgat Cave
The coastline around De Kelders combines limestone cliffs, beaches, fynbos and ancient caves. Klipgat Cave, within Walker Bay Nature Reserve, is valued for both its natural setting and archaeological significance. Follow reserve guidance and take care on uneven coastal paths.
Explore beyond the coast
Nearby Stanford offers cafés, galleries and country charm, while Hermanus, Elim and Cape Agulhas make rewarding day trips. Local farm stalls, wine estates and small restaurants add variety to a longer stay.
Make staying in part of the experience
Not every day needs an itinerary. The ocean view, plunge pool, indoor braai and generous living spaces make a slow day at Whale Waters every bit as memorable.
