De Kelders, Gansbaai

Perched above Walker Bay on the Cape Whale Coast, De Kelders is a small seaside village known for wide ocean views, a dramatic shoreline and a slower pace. Whale Waters places guests close to the coast and within easy reach of Gansbaai and the wider Overberg.

A remarkable stretch of coast

The name De Kelders, meaning “the cellars”, refers to the caves found along the limestone shoreline. Coastal paths and viewpoints reveal changing perspectives across Walker Bay, while the nearby nature reserve protects fynbos, beaches and important archaeological sites.

A seasonal front-row view

Walker Bay is an important seasonal destination for Southern Right whales. During whale season, guests may be fortunate enough to see activity from the shore and from Whale Waters itself. Sightings are natural events and can never be guaranteed.
